Senior Software Developer / Database Engineer Object Orientated languages e.g. C# / SQL or Oracle Devonport, Plymouth SF27400 Overall Department Direction

Here at Babcock International, we're seeking a Senior Software Developer / Database Engineer to join us to work as an integral part of our Defence Systems Technology (DST) division. DST forms a critical part of Babcock's Marine organisation. Working across a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, our 1,500 strong team operate from a number of sites across the UK and internationally ensuring our global customer portfolio is always supported.

This exciting opportunity works with the Weapons Technical Team based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth. The Technical Team forms part of Mission Systems division of the Defence Systems Technology (DST) business unit within Babcock International. DST is a rapidly growing business unit which operates out from the Combined Weapons Electrical Workshop (CWEW) situated in the Granby Yard enclave at Devonport.

About the Role

We are aiming at growing the team with the addition of a Senior Software Developer / Database Engineer to utilise innovative solutions to ensure effective management of complex asset data. If you enjoy working with engineers of various disciplines, providing software solutions to enhance the use of technical information in a design and production environment then this would be a perfect opportunity for you.

Through the design, implementation and maintenance of a relational database you will be vital in managing the flow of information from a range of sources such as real time data in the form of network packets, technical manuals and configuration data predominantly for the Phalanx CIWS.

The work you do will greatly improve the way we manage complex assets, you will be provided with the resources and support required to achieve this role.

You shall perform a lead role for the software output of the Technical Department projects including technical information and documentation. Where required, you shall also provide mentorship of junior members of the team and graduates on development placements.

Monitor, control and update stakeholders of multiple task progression

Manage and plan resources for sub-contractor delivery

A flexible approach and able to adapt quickly to work flow change in order to meet equipment availability targets

Excellent interpersonal, communication skills

Highly motivated with key interpersonal skills

Experience

Experienced in an object oriented programming language (for example C#) building GUI and database (SQL or Oracle) access tools

Demonstrable evidence of software development projects

Demonstrable evidence of relational database development projects

Experience of developing, implementing and administrating relational databases

Demonstrable evidence of administrating relational databases

Experience using off the shelf tools for organising data into relational databases

Familiarity with methods for capture and processing of serial data

Experience of managing and developing software projects to safety standards, cost, programme and quality.

Comprehensive working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of tools including SharePoint, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Qualifications

Bachelor/Master's Degree in computer science or related discipline (Beneficial, not essential)

Security

Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and will be required to complete a medical assessment.

The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services. This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.

UK passport required.
