Senior Mechanical Engineer
Our clients values experienced well qualified engineers that relish solving challenging engineering problems in pursuit of delighting our customers.  We develop niche solutions for harsh environments across a wide product range, covering electric field sensors for deep ocean exploration to high power electric motors and converters for a range of customers.  We work in integrated product teams and expect our engineers to be capable of working from concept to delivery, equally able to formulate a concept solution, conduct the supporting analysis, and support the build through the production phase.
Our client currently has a vacancy for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience of Power electronics and inverter systems.
Within this role, there is a requirement to align business strategy to that of our customers and in support of this, a high degree of customer interaction will be required. Working with specialists from other engineering disciplines, the candidate will provide mechanical design expertise in support of business opportunities. This will include feasibility studies, technology developments, concept designs for new products and bids and proposals.
The successful Engineer will also be required to provide guidance and support to other Mechanical Engineers within the engineering community and to contribute towards the development of engineering excellence within the business.
Key responsibilities
Generate concept design proposals and feasibility studies to support product development programmesManagement and Co-ordination of technical activities within a small teamCarrying out elements of the product designResponsible for the structural and thermal performance of productsGuidance and support to other mechanical engineersDesign review authority for mechanical aspects of projectsContribute to the development of engineering excellence within the businessProvide the engineering department with mechanical engineering expertise in support of future business opportunitiesPersonal attributes
A degree or higher in Mechanical EngineeringBroad knowledge of all aspects of engineering (e.g. systems, electrical, electro-mechanical)Appreciation of electrical aspects of cabinet design (e.g. EMC, stray fields, creepage and clearance, insulation systems)Experience in manufacturing methods applicable to electronic cabinets; sheet metal fabrications, welding, machining, corrosion protectionProficient in the use of 3D CAD. Solidworks is preferred but not essentialUse of CFD/FEA tools for thermal analysis and structural analysis, fatigue life assessments.Good knowledge of materialsGood knowledge of best practice design lifecycle process; gated design phases, design reviews.Good in front of customers; willing and able to make presentationsIt is likely that in future the candidate may perform mechanical lead roles in complex power developments
