VLE Developer

Overview

We require a developer who can provide ongoing technical support and maintenance for our new and fast-growing Moodle-based Virtual Learning Environment, as well as configuring future upgrades to the platform and successful integration with other key business systems and processes.

You will be working as part of NCC Education's Digital Improvement Team, providing the hard-technical skills and support required for the team's ongoing VLE development projects and associated/other systems' improvements.

To succeed in this role you must be knowledgeable and confident utilising a range of stack development tools (PHP, Moodle, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Linux, Apache, MySQL) and project user approaches, with excellent communication and the ability to explain technical information to non-technical colleagues and VLE users.

Job Purpose

To provide ongoing technical support for the maintenance and development of NCC Education's Moodle-based Virtual Learning Environment (VLE); configuring future software upgrades to the VLE platform and developing successful integration with other key business systems and processes.

Working as part of NCC Education's Digital Improvement Team and utilising a range of stack development skills and project user approaches you will provide hard technical skills and support for the team's ongoing VLE development projects and associated/other systems' improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain the company's live and test VLE platforms, ensuring associated upgrades/updates and that corresponding change/test logs are always available and up to date 

Work with IT Support Manager and NCC Education's IaaS provider to ensure optimal server set up and hosting/back up arrangements are in place for the VLE and other systems as required  

Complete development items on the VLE platform and associated web services/systems in line with Digital Improvement Team projects, coding amends/new/additional functionality which facilitates ongoing support of, and further digital integration with, business processes and systems

Monitor VLE user accounts creation (and suspension/deactivation as needed), keeping associated documentation up to date and inducting other key staff into LMS administrative activities as required

Qualifications

Relevant Degree level or equivalent

Knowledge and experience

PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Linux, Apache, MySQL

LMS/Moodle User Management

Systems integration (e.g. single sign on, third-party web services integration)

Evaluating/testing of APIs and web services

Learning Management System experience would be desirable but is not essential.

Knowledge and/or experience of the education sector (teaching, qualifications and assessment) would be desirable but is not essential for the role

Knowledge and/or experience of using eLearning software packages such as Articulate 360 would be desirable but is not essential for the role
