Our Mission

We're on a mission to build the bank of the future, and we need your help to do it.

Continuing our extensive transformation programme, we're redefining what a bank is from the inside out. Our technology, our culture, and our mindset is changing to craft a true engineering-led organisation.

Become part of our diverse team, and you'll experience a rare opportunity to make a difference to the lives of millions through our brands like Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds, and Scottish Widows (among others).

Our flat teams will encourage and empower you to make decisions, build positive relationships, and deliver a meaningful difference to our customers, colleagues, and communities.

Our mentors will nurture your talent, and encourage you to further develop yourself and your career.

Our Team

In the Machine Intelligence Programme we design, build, and operate the bank's Chatbots, Data Science, NLP/NLG, and Robotics projects.

We're a diverse group of around 200 people: Software Engineers, Product Owners, Business Analysts, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Robotics Specialists, Conversation Designers and many more. We come from a variety of backgrounds across the globe, but we all share in the vision of the untapped potential of human and machine intelligence.

We want to make the bank of the future safer, faster, and more effective. We're realising a future where machine intelligence takes away repetitive manual tasks and provides insight and direction to our colleagues - empowering them to do more, with less effort.

What you'll do

We believe that people don't fit neatly into roles, and we value everyone's individual skills, experience, and knowledge - it's what makes you awesome!

What follows is what you might find yourself doing on an average day in the Machine Intelligence Programme, but your experience will depend on the team's needs as well as your own aspirations. Our goal is to help you develop in a way that fulfils you, and create an environment where you can do what you enjoy.

You'll practice scrum in a small engineering team that sits within one of our product labs.

You'll build microservices with languages like Java, Node, and Python.

You'll create beautiful web apps using technology like React, Vue, or whatever the next big thing is.

You'll automate tests, builds, and all the things, then give your bots fun names.

You'll change how we work by discovering new tools, methods, and approaches.

You'll use your knowledge and experience of your product to help shape our overarching strategy.

You'll coach other engineers and take a lead on the team's software design.

It's ok if some of these are things you're not used to. We want people who want to learn and grow, and teach us something in the process.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who:

Is passionate about code.

Doesn't think of white fluffy things when we say "Cloud".

Loves to learn different technologies.

Looks past the problem in front of them, and sees what's behind it.

Sees tests as a tool, and not a necessary evil.

Thinks about the customer, and not just the code.

Finally

We're committed to employing a diverse and inclusive workforce, reflective of the customers and communities we serve - where all our colleagues can be themselves and succeed on merit.

You'll also receive a package that includes

Discretionary bonus

Cash sum of 4% which you can exchange for a variety of benefits or simply take the cash

Private Medical Insurance

Pension, where we'll give up to a max of 13%

Share plans

30 days holiday

And we're proud to have received these industry recognitions: Stonewall Top Private Sector Employer, Top10 Employer for Working Families, The Times Top 50 Employer for Women and both Gold Standard and Best Workplace Adjustments Process from the Business Disability Forum.
