Description
As a Systems Engineer, you are responsible for building world-class digital products and have a deep understanding of the infrastructure and software development processes and craft. You will deliver infrastructure, tools and best practices that will be used by all the other digital teams at The Telegraph.
Working within our Platforms team, you will be responsible for building and running The Telegraph's internal platform as a service infrastructure on top of AWS and GCP cloud platforms that power our APIs and other digital products.
You will work within a high-performing, agile team that works directly with the Business and its stakeholders to deliver a comprehensive roadmap for our internal platform as a service and cloud infrastructure automation.
You are expected to work with full autonomy to help deliver end to end features and technical improvements in GCP and AWS, working with technologies like Kubernetes, Jenkins, Terraform, Cloudformation and serverless. This includes, but is not restricted to, working alongside Architecture to help define the cloud infrastructure, through to helping test core functionality and demoing new deliverables to the wider Business.
Key responsibilities:
Build and run our internal platform as a service on both GCP and AWS
Continually improve the speed, efficiency, and scalability of the build processes and infrastructure.
Create and maintain documentation on the build systems, infrastructure, and processes.
Work directly with development team(s) to facilitate the delivery of products
Guide development streams providing insight into operational best practices
Must be able to participate in an on call rotation
Requirements
Good understanding of Amazon AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform products, services, design and architecture principles
Container automation, management and orchestration : Docker / ECS / Kubernetes
Practical experience with Linux systems
Experience with CI/CD tools. e.g Jenkins, Bamboo
An understanding of and experience with version control systems e.g. Git, Bitbucket
Practical scripting knowledge of one of: Bash / Python / Go
Ability to identify areas where tasks can be automated/streamlined and see this through
Strong problem solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills
Additional skills useful for the role:
Has direct experience of software delivery within a transactional online environment
Infrastructure as code: Terraform / Cloudformation
Experience with production database maintenance and management
Serverless architecture exposure
