Here in Defra, we deal with a vast range of issues that have a profound impact on people's lives. We are responsible for the environment, our countryside and rural economy, as well as the food and farming sectors. We also provide protection against a wide range of natural threats and hazards. Join us as an SEO Programme Planner, and you'll have a vital role to play in helping us achieve our vision of ‘creating a great place for living'.

This is a particularly exciting time to join Defra. We're one of the lead Departments in delivering a successful exit from the EU. You'll have the opportunity to contribute towards and influence the development of new approaches and policies on a wide range of issues affecting millions of people in the UK.

The role will see you playing an active role in shaping and delivering Defra's priorities, working creatively and collaboratively with others to deliver excellent outcomes. You can expect significant opportunities to develop your own skills and future career too.

Your specific responsibilities will include everything from providing planning support for the EU Exit project and applying standards for the programme through to engaging with project managers to develop plans at a range of levels and coordinating updates with them. These four roles are based across two directorates: Future Farming and Countryside, and Natural Environment, giving you fantastic scope to get involved in diverse areas of work.

To join us, you should have experience of working as a Project Planner on a change project or programme, preferably within the public sector or government. As part of that, you'll have generated MI reports, including for project reviews, delivery reviews, leadership teams and executives. You'll be an expert in Microsoft Project for planning or in another comparable tool, with a willingness to undertake training on MS Project.

Strong verbal reasoning skills are also essential and, like everyone in our SEO team, you'll be confident in working at pace, making effective decisions and working with other people at all levels.

Two-year fixed-term contract (with the potential for extension)
