Communications Consultant

QinetiQ's Secure Comms and Network Group are renowned for providing high quality, independent technical advice to the MOD, Commercial and other government departments in support of many of their major procurement programmes.

A vacancy exists for an enthusiastic person to work in the Communications Information systems area, the ideal person will have completed a communications module at BTEC or degree level. The candidate will have gained some knowledge of Radio Frequencies (one or more of UHF, VHF, SHF, HF) and propagation effects and will have some practical electronics experience. The candidate should be familiar with using general electronic test equipment and ideally be able to take RF measurements and evaluate radio link performance..

The candidate will be able to work as part of a team or as an individual to complete tasks as directed.

Typical activities may include;

Drafting test specifications and schedules.

Conduct radio link testing in a laboratory environment.

Support off-site trials, this may include deployment of system as part of a team.

Supporting system integration into military platforms.

Trouble-shooting communications system issues

To collate data, conduct analysis and provide an effective presentation of test results

Providing reports - Test results, progress reports to a project manager or senior test engineer.

 Providing a presentation to a small group.

Able to follow processes and procedures, and able to work responsibly in safety-critical environments, e.g. in and around military platforms.
