30th March 2020 Are you an experienced electrical or electronic engineer with expert technical skills and practical experience in electronics or electrical engineering? Do you have a desire to apply your skills to a technically challenging environment and help develop a new source of electricity that is carbon free, with fuel reserves for millions of years? This is not science fiction - this is Nuclear Fusion - the process that powers the Sun. The UK Atomic Energy Authority are recruiting for an electrical / electronic engineering specialist to provide technical expertise to support with all queries relating to power supply systems on UKAEA`s fusion experiments. The Electrical Engineering Department operates, maintains and develops the power converters for the Joint European Torus (JET), the largest operating Tokamak in the world and the UK`s new Tokamak MAST-U that will position UKAEA at the centre of international fusion research for many years to come. Expert electrical and electronic engineers are being sought who would be regarded as subject matter experts in the design, modification, troubleshooting, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of the large megawatt power electronic converters, rotating machines and high voltage pulsed distribution. Your key areas of responsibility will include: -Be the technical expert for testing and commissioning of power systems, including calibration tests, injection of protections, functional tests of control systems and high voltage testing
-Proposing improvements in performance and reliability of power systems by proposing and developing enhancements deliverable both in the short term and long term
-Analyse complex systems to understand faults and performance limitations
-Providing mentoring, coaching and technical training to engineers at UKAEA; including new starters, apprentices and graduates

-Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or another relevant discipline. A lower qualification level may be accepted where the candidate demonstrates a technical expertise at the level expected
-Extensive technical expertise and practical experience in electronics or electrical engineering
-Experience in analytical and simulation methods for complex power systems
-Ability to manage complex work tasks and to work as part of a team
-Ability to prioritise work and work under pressure
-Good team working and communication skills Desirable
-Registered as a professional engineer Special requirements:
