As a Lead Project Engineer, you will operate at programme level and be the overarching technical lead, accountable for the technical solutions, their quality and assurance and delivery to schedule. You will co-ordinate activities between the various projects and disciplines, working in partnership with the Programme Managers to ensure a consistent approach to the creation and delivery of our products and advice. Typically you will have responsibility for the technical oversight of all engineering activities on projects and programmes relating to the air platforms or capabilities within your area, and as such you are a technical point of contact for our staff, and our customers, whether they be DE&S, military or commercial. You will engage with our customers at a strategic level to understand their future aspirations with respect to capability, and will provide technical support and oversight to the Sales and Bid teams to develop robust technical solutions.

Specific Responsibilities

Operating in accordance with the QinetiQ Operating Framework business processes and engineering governance.

Leading the technical delivery within the Portfolio.

Working in partnership with the Portfolio Lead to drive projects to successful delivery.

Working closely with the Portfolio Chief Engineer, seeking expert advice and guidance (specifically on engineering governance requirements) as required.

Ensuring delivery of integrated output that meets Customer requirements.

Ensuring consistent application of relevant processes, methods and tools.

Key Accountabilities

Operating in accordance with the QinetiQ Operating Framework business processes and engineering governance.

Technical delivery within relevant Portfolio.

On-time delivery of high quality integrated solutions that meet Customer requirements.

Working in partnership with the Portfolio Lead to drive projects to successful delivery.

Leading by example the Project Engineering team in the portfolio.

Ensuring appropriate and consistent use of engineering processes, methods & tools collaborating across Engineering and Operations to generate effective solutions.

Ensuring relevant projects comply with the appropriate engineering lifecycles and the requirements of appropriate and proportionate engineering governance. 

Ensuring the quality of the Project Engineering integrated outputs across the portfolio.

Authorising outputs in accordance with appropriate delegations.

Allocation of appropriate Project Engineering staff to projects.

Identification of recruitment/contractor requirements in conjunction with the Systems Engineering Team Leader to meet the project engineering demands for the portfolio.

Supporting Business Development Activity with technical inputs.

Essential Qualifications

Engineering Degree.

Chartered Engineer.

A good knowledge of UK Military Aviation Authority (MAA) regulatory publications, certification, Release to Service, and UK military trials activities and processes.

Experience of Airworthiness for Military Aircraft (AMAC).

Experience of Operational and Regulatory requirements (MAA and EASA/CAA).

Experience of EASA Part 21J.
