Data Scientist
Day Rate - £150
Duration - 2 months initially
Location - Sheffield
IR35 - Inside (Must use an umbrella company)
This role is an opportunity to work with a range of exciting research projects enabling researchers to solve challenging problems. You will support researchers across a range of faculties including science, engineering, medicine, social sciences, the arts and humanities. In particular support will be provided for the Urban Flows project which is an institute formed by departments from the faculties of science and engineering.
You will be a data-oriented person with good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc you will be providing a consultancy service for researchers using a suite of tools and platforms for data analysis. You will use you experience with data analysis and visualisation tools e.g. NVivo, R, SPSS, Matlab, Python, D3.js, GGplot,Shiny to develop and run training courses for our research community.
Qualifications and experience
1.Have a good honours degree in a related subject area or equivalent qualifications (or equivalent experience)
2.Experience with desktop workstations, know how to manage storage and software applications on these
3.Technical Professional Registration or the willingness to work towards it
4.Knowledge of the research data lifecycle
5.Statistician with experience of quantitative analysis systems e.g SAS, SPSS, STATA, GAUSS,
6.Experience with qualitative analysis and multimethods research and software packages such as NVIVO, MAXQDA, QDAMiner
7.Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, NumPy, MatLab, etc.
8.Knowledge of data storage systems for big data and big data analytics e.g. HADOOP
9.Experience with creating and managing accessible and user friendly web content
Work with the EPSRC funded institute, the Urban Flows project, supporting the development of its platform providing analytical tools for environmental and traffic data gathered using an array of sensors in Sheffield. The resulting tools will be used to inform processes for evidence based policy planning by local, regional and central government.
Lead on the development of the research active data service provided by our client and monitor progress ensuring agreed strategy and policies are implemented.
