We have an excellent opportunity for a Network-focused Systems Engineer to work within a large-scale, multi-site IT estate both supporting the infrastructure and implementing change as required. You will be supported by the Infrastructure Delivery Team but expected to work independently, leading other technical resources when necessary, including 3rd party suppliers. There will be opportunities for travelling to our other sites when the need arises, and a degree of flexibility in working hours is expected.
You will be required to implement designs provided by the departmental Architecture Team, as well as having the capability to contribute towards those designs. Our clients are our in-house business users for whom you will resolve issues as they arise according to set priorities.
The role specifically calls for a Subject Matter Expert in local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Wi-Fi, networking security (including firewalls), and other networking systems. Proven capability in complementary subject areas, especially Windows Server, Citrix, Exchange and Skype for Business would be a distinct advantage. Other responsibilities include: Working as part of a team to provide day to day proactive and reactive support for all of Phoenix's local and wide area network components, and security devices, including: Routing (OSPF, BGP, HSRP/VRRP) Switching (VLANs, ACLs, sFlow, STP, Trunking, MAC Auth etc) Firewalls (IPSEC VPNs, Proxy services, Anti-Spoofing, IPS/IDS, Natting) AAA (Radius, MAC Auth, accounting) Load Balancers Wireless Access Points Co-ordinating with third party suppliers and vendors to progress issues where applicable Providing technical support in a multi-vendor environment (Cisco, Huawei, Checkpoint, ASA's, Forcepoint) Producing and maintaining technical documentation Following documented processes within an ITIL and ISO Compliant Environment Supporting project implementation requirements both physical installations & configurations Abiding by Security policy and procedures and implement security directives from relevant managers from time to time Troubleshooting and finding resolutions to complex technical problems across multiple tiers Providing out of hours cover as part of an on-call rota and being prepared to perform out of hours changes

What we're looking for: A proactive self-starter who likes to own their professional area of expertise. This will suit someone who can work well both independently and as part of a wider IT team structure. Experience of working for a large complex organisation. We are a regulated FTSE 100 company, and with an organisation this size there can be plenty of complexities and challenges to consider, both within the business and with our external partners and outsourcers. Subject Matter Expert for all network components in a multi-tier, multi-vendor network environment (Data, Voice and Security) Qualifications with Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco CCNP Cert or equivalent, Huawei, Checkpoint, Forcepoint or equivalent Network or Security would be highly desirable
