My client in the Defence sector is looking for a candidate to work within a team delivering the High Level and Detailed design of a complex gateway solution.

Location: South West England. Plus travel.

Qualifications + Experience:

*Will have a degree qualification (engineering/science) or equivalent.

*Relevant professional experience with appropriate industry qualifications.

*Experience of delivering complex designs, right first time, to demanding timescales, often utilising leading-edge technology.

*Experience working within a Central Government environment would be beneficial.

Key Purpose of the Role:

DESIGN

*To work within a team delivering the High Level and Detailed design of a complex gateway solution.

*The candidate should have in depth design experience with the following technologies:

oF5 Global and Local load balancers. DNS.

oLayer 3 networking

oWindows based Infrastructure (AD, SharePoint, SQL, Exchange etc)

oVirtual Server environments

oNext Generation Firewalls

oEmail services (Exchange and MTA)

oNetwork & systems Management

oConfiguration management & Change Control

*The candidate should have some design experience with the following technologies:

oHyperconverged Infrastructure

oVirtual Desktop Infrastructure including brokers and user management

oData Diodes

oSecure data handling and marking

oDeep Secure products

oXMPP and IRC communications

*Be a Subject Matter Expert in some of the above technologies and able to communicate with the wider team of designers to manage the delivery of the solution and supporting design artefacts.

*Work with the lead designer, project manager and other stakeholders to create a plan for the delivery of the solution in demanding timescales.

SUPPLIER MANAGEMENT

*Where appropriate, manage suppliers and vendors in respect of design deliverables and the procurement of hardware and software for the programme's test lab and live environments.

*Agreeing scope, deliverables and acceptance criteria for design work-packages

*Ensuring that any design work-packages are delivered on time and to the agreed acceptance criteria

*Agreeing the contents and bill-of-materials for procurement of software and hardware required to support the solution and its environments

CHANGE CONTROL

*To manage the impacts and implementation of change controls affecting the design work-stream.

ENVIRONMENT BUILD

*To be part of the implementation team post design for test lab and live environments. Shall include all build and configuration of network, server and system environment components.

*To act as SME during build / delivery phase to help clarify implementation issues.

*Provide reports to the Lead Designer and Project Manager to ensure that the programme is informed of progress, risks and issues associated with the delivery of the programmes environments.

*In collaboration with the Service Designer/Manager ensure that the service design documentation and processes will support live service requirements relating to maintenance, operation and change control/release management.
