The Linux Engineer will be a key technical engineer in the delivery of the payment gateway services, utilising their excellent technical knowledge and experience to proactively define and develop the environment and procedures, and be an expert trouble-shooter for major or critical service incidents.

As a member of the Operations Infrastructure teams, the primary function of the role is to ensure the Linux and Middleware-based infrastructure is secure, robust, resilient and compliant to PCI standards.

Key Accountabilities:

The Linux Engineer reports into the Linux Team Leader. This role holds accountability for Linux Infrastructure service projects and production support to the BPS payment gateway services Smartpay -S and Smartpay -B.Ownership and leadership of technical resolution for high severity production incidents and ProblemTake part in the technical team during disaster recovery and business continuity exercisesDefine operational procedures and documentationProvide on-call rota support where requiredLead and define network delivery requirements for Service Improvement Unit initiativesDesign and lead internal projects and deliveries aligned with the Linux roadmapSupport the architect and product teams in developing the Linux roadmap.Identify new technologies and services to transform the Linux service offeringMentor the global technical team to build a high-performing technical delivery environmentStakeholder Management and LeadershipRisk and Control Key Skills Required:Administration of RedHat products, especially RHEL 6 & 7 and Satellite 6Knowledge of the ITIL framework, vocabulary and best practicesExperience of RHEL and Apache performance tuning and capacity management on critical customer-facing systems and high-volume payments servicesRHCSE minimum - RHEL 6Proven experience with Automating operational processes and build processes using tools like Chef, ansible or PuppetStrong storage configuration skills with NFS and iSCSI. Must have a firm grasp of best practice, performance tuning, troubleshootingStrong emphasis on CHEF skills, including writing deployment and test scripts Suitable candidates should submit their CV in the first instance.
