About Core Banking System (CBS)
This role is on the Core Banking System (CBS) supporting all the Retail customers of the bank as well as Wealth and Commercial customers. The application supports all the Customer facing and back office channels which interface into our systems as well as being the Accounting System for the Bank. This is a key role supporting the Lab Engineering Lead and helping inspire change, agile ways of working and strategy across the application and the team of Engineers.
About the role
The role of our Lead Engineer is vital in ensuring the products we deliver are fit for purpose and meet the quality and standards that our customers expect.
You'll work with stakeholders to advocate engineering and deliver business value through sound and fully rounded engineering methods and principles, ensuring platforms and software are built consistently with relevant patterns and practices supports the engineering community by providing deep domain and technical expertise and providing a voice to engineers to identify and support the resolution of issues.
Working with the Lab Engineering Lead to define the strategy for the lab, deliver business value, ensure quality of software and support key design decisions across technology, operating model, customer experience and other design viewpoints. You'll also ensure technical debt and releases are prioritised accordingly and be able to continually develop standard methodology methods and tooling used across their engineering teams.
What you'll be involved in...
Setting the strategic direction for how components and services are developed, tested and progressed within their Engineering discipline
Delivering business value through excellent engineering methods, principles, and practices
You'll support and foster knowledge across engineering community and coach engineering colleagues as part of their development
You'll exercise responsibility, autonomy and judgment within broad, but well-defined parameters and help drive the success of Lloyds Engineering Chapters, Communities and Guilds whilst resolving impediments, issues and providing a voice for engineers within teams
What background and skills are we looking for?
Financial Services experience with a mainframe application (ideally UNISYS although other experience will be considered)
Experience in hands on engineering
Sound decision-making abilities when faced with complex demands and issues that can, and will, arise throughout delivery of services
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail, logical and creative
You'll take ownership and deals with issues directly, identifies solutions to minimize critical issues
Ability to work independently and take responsibility whilst using own initiative, with a detailed and organised approach
Experience of working with IT and external partners to resolve incidents
Strong knowledge of the software development life-cycle from design, build to production
You must have a real passion for mentoring other engineers and building a strong team culture through peer-to-peer collaboration and development, and you'll be able to work "hands-on" alongside all other engineering disciplines.
Additionally, it would be outstanding to see someone with the following skills/background:
Experience with agile development methods & tooling e.g. Scrum, Kanban, Jira & Confluence
Experience of working as part of an agile team
Experience of using modern software development toolsets and ability to stretch into DevOps, Continuous Integration and Delivery
Experience and knowledge across the entire Software Development Lifecycle
Proficient / recent experience with toolsets relevant to your software engineering discipline
