You will strengthen the firm's understanding of research and knowledge exchange activity in the higher education sector and inform policy discussion by processing, analysing and interpreting quantitative data. There will be specific policy questions requiring analytical input and these are likely to change over time. Client DetailsGovernment DepartmentDescriptionTo conduct quantitative analyses to provide evidence to inform policy development Effective communication with policy colleagues when they request quantitative analyses Policy questions clarified appropriate and robust sources of data identified Data processed and analysed accurately using robust methods Effective communication with Analysis Team colleagues, including securing and specifying appropriate independent checks Findings reported clearly and concisely To be an effective member of the wider Analysis Team Proficient in the use of the SAS programming language (training will be provided if needed) Awareness of the work areas covered by the rest of the Analysis Team Knowledge of the formula-driven funding methods used by Research England Contribution to the work of the Analysis Team To answer ad-hoc queries to the Analysis Team from both internal and external sources, and prepare ad-hoc analyses and report findings, as required Accurate and timely responses to queries and requests for summary analyses and database extracts, as required To manage staff, as the need arises Effective line-management for an analyst, as required. ProfileSignificant experience of manipulating large complex datasets Clarifying policy questions, and identifying relevant data sources Producing publications or internal briefing documents Solid grasp of own work area, demonstrating excellent numeric, analytical and research skills Provides significant input into technical and/or process development Demonstrates logical thinking through analysing and solving complex data based problems Good standard of spoken and written English Able to explain technical details clearly and concisely Able to communicate effectively with internal and external colleagues Able to write high-quality documents, including internal briefing documents and/or published reports Able to develop and present analysis, challenge, negotiate and influence people - mainly with an internal focus Able to work independently and within a team Approachable with an ability to learn from and assist others Desirable:Masters or higher in a numerate subject Experience of using the SAS programming language Able to supervise or manage the workload of others.
