We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Senior SQL Server DBA Specialist to join our group technology and change team in either our Edinburgh or Wilmslow office.
The main purpose of the role will to be responsible for the administration and support of all production, test, development and training environments through oracle. The SQL Server specialist will also be responsible for contributing to the wider business area and work closely with the Infrastructure Manager to define policies and set standards to improve efficiency over the estate.
What will you be doing
Providing technical consultancy in all areas of SQL Server technology
Ownership of all aspects of Royal London's SQL Server estate, co-authoring roadmaps and providing guidance to the architectural function
Assisting and supporting the Oracle estate would be highly advantageous
Enhancing services through innovation and leading solution designs. Identifying opportunities for improvement in services
Working closely with IT project managers to agree timescales for deliverables and implementation changes
Support and mentoring the wider DBA team
What we're looking for
Technical expertise in SQL Server
Strong T-SQL skills
Experience of DBMS best practice
Proficient in Windows Operating systems
Appreciation of the development life cycle
Proficient in the support and maintenance methods and licence management
Have an understanding of other software and hardware that use database systems and how they work
Experience of designing technical solutions
Skills that will help you in the role
Knowledge of other operating systems and RDBMs would be an advantageous
Excellent written and oral communications skills
Good mentoring skills and technical leadership skills
Comfortable working to tight deadlines and working autonomously
Willingness to work out of hours and on-call when required
Comfortable working in a team and support colleagues throughout the business
Excellent problem solving and decision making skills
