At the Home Office, our task is simple - to keep the UK safe. Doing this means working across a huge range of projects, dealing with some of the most high-profile and important issues the country faces. But protecting millions of people requires cutting-edge technology platforms and brilliant engineers who can expand our capabilities. If you're talented, tenacious and forward-thinking, you'll find yourself in good company. Join us at the heart of government, take advantage of huge opportunities and help us build an unrivalled department.
You'll be working at the centre of an exciting, innovative project that will transform the way Immigration Officers do their jobs. Working under the guidance of senior colleagues in our Frontline API team (FLAPI), you'll replace outdated paper-based systems with a mobile app featuring fingerprint readers, real-time search and reporting capabilities. You'll design and implement new solutions, writing clean, secure and open code following a test-driven approach. On top of this, you'll work with other engineers to evolve new capabilities, constantly improving the way we work.
You should already have proven mid-level experience in a relevant development role. This should include Java, REST APIs and working in an agile and test-driven environment. You should also be passionate about user-focused tech solutions and changing government services for the better.
Whatever your role at the Home Office, we'll support your career plans and evolve your skills with exceptional tools, training and coaching. There's also a wealth of opportunity to move around and work across different teams. As a Civil Service employee, you'll be entitled to a wide range of benefits, including generous annual leave, flexible working, childcare and travel allowances, numerous staff networks and clubs, onsite facilities and a Civil Service pension.
