At the Home Office, our task is simple - to keep the UK safe. Doing this means working across a huge range of projects, dealing with some of the most high-profile and important issues the country faces. But protecting millions of people requires cutting-edge technology platforms and brilliant engineers who can expand our capabilities. If you're talented, tenacious and forward-thinking, you'll find yourself in good company. Join us at the heart of government, take advantage of huge opportunities and help us build an unrivalled department.

This is your chance to lead on exciting initiatives (forming the Shared Application Service) which is fundamentally transforming our department and laying the foundations for the way we'll work in the future. In this pivotal role, you'll manage multiple Lead Engineers and build out successful teams, ensuring great work across the board and collaborating with other senior leaders on technical approaches.  You will also work with other technical leads, our suppliers and broader community to triage services and plan how we make them fit for the future.  This may also hinge on you picking up challenging transformational tasks, working with our product owners, architects and security experts.

Beyond this, you'll be responsible for our improving our strategy and mindset throughout our teams, improving performance, latency, response and other indicators as we embed an agile, product-centric delivery.

You should already have managed engineering delivery across multiple disciplines, working at the inception stage of a programme. We would expect this may  include developing strategies, devising new ways of working and building new technical teams. As you will be leading developers we expect a solid grounding in a relevant language (e.g. Java) and a broad tech skillset, but also fantastic communication skills across all levels; you'll regularly engage with diverse stakeholders when planning activities.

Whatever your role at the Home Office, we'll support your career plans and evolve your skills with exceptional tools, training and coaching. There's also a wealth of opportunity to move around and work across different teams. As a Civil Service employee, you'll be entitled to a wide range of benefits, including generous annual leave, flexible working, childcare and travel allowances, numerous staff networks and clubs, onsite facilities and a Civil Service pension.
