Our apprenticeship scheme will enable you to develop both general work-related skills and professional qualifications to excel in your chosen discipline. All UKAEA apprentices are expected to complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard and represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.
You will have the opportunity to pursue an apprenticeship in one of the following disciplines:
L6 - Computer Science
L6 - Embedded Electronic Systems Design
L6 - Power Electronics
L6 - Product Design & Development Engineering

The UKAEA hosts and manages the JET nuclear fusion energy experiment on behalf of the EU and is also home to the UK`s MAST-U fusion energy experiment. UKAEA also works with industry and other third parties to develop new technologies currently in Remote Handling and Materials research. Following recent UK funding two new centres of excellence in tritium fuel handling and component testing and validation are being built. Knowledge skills and experience
-Minimum of Maths A level passed at Grade C
-Plus, two other A levels passed at Grade C
-Or relevant engineering BTEC L3 at MMM or above.
-Good communication skills.
-Demonstrate an interest and aptitude for practical work
-Normal colour vision - due to wiring regulations
Special requirements:
-May be required to work with other trades and semi-skilled operatives in undertaking activities.
-May be required to work in controlled areas
-May be required to work at height
Please note all employees working at the UK Atomic Energy Authority will be required to complete an online Disclosure Certificate application as part of their clearance - The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks will show the details of all current criminal convictions (convictions considered unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974) or will confirm that there are no such convictions.
Selection Methods:
-Initial assessment centres will be held in early April. You may be required to attend a final interview in the middle of April.
-As part of the selection process you may be expected to complete work based simulation exercises and a personality profile either online or onsite.
