Network Engineer

Location: Stafford

Duration: 6 months

This is a great opportunity to join a well-motivated and ITIL V3 disciplined team.

The team consists of 2 technical professionals who support 'Network Functions'. The network is a meshed environment based on HP switches for the LAN and Juniper routers for the WAN connectivity. Core is running on CISCO ACI . The team looks after Firewalls and F5 Load Balancers.

The Networks Officer will be based in Stafford and will be required to work with the wider IT team to resolve all issues, however, the work can be located at various other sites throughout the Staffordshire area. Remote management experience will be an advantage in providing a more efficient service.

You will use your technical expertise to help deliver appropriate service improvements in performance, stability and productivity but above all ensure KPIs, OLAs and SLAs are delivered in line with requirements.

Your responsibilities will require some travel within the UK and occasionally may require overseas travel.

Responsibilities:

*Undertake the resolution of incidents which cannot be satisfactorily resolved by the Service Desk (second line support).

*Proactive and Reactive management using network management tools.

*Install updates to software and hardware when required using defined release management protocols.

*Network Performance Monitoring and reporting.

*Network Capacity Planning Network Development.

*Installation and Configuration of Network Devices.

*Install and Configuration of Firewall Devices.

*Able to enforce the defined security policies for the network.

*Manage existing service contracts.

*Ensure that Network hardware configurations are accurate and available.

New and replacement equipment:

*Preparation of new equipment ready for installation.

*Checking that the installation complies with internal standards.

*Ensuring user requirement is current and equipment configuration still meets user needs.

*Adopting stringent documented testing procedures to ensure that the equipment works as it should before installing in accordance with ITIL processes.

*Ensuring that the equipment and services works as they should in situ

*Recording all new equipment and changes in the configuration library

*Update Request for Change documents where appropriate

Project Work

*When agreed by management, providing a point of contact and technical assistance for issues connected with projects.

*Providing "consultancy" services during development projects.

*Support the installation of equipment and applications as required.

*Developing technical documentation required to facilitate support and operation.

*Understand the project enough to take over support requirements in line with project direction.

Advice:

*Assisting in formulation of RFCs where appropriate.

*Advising management of issues that require attention.

Organisation:

*Prioritising and managing workloads to meet the needs of the customer.

*Ensuring all relevant documentation is properly completed.

*Constantly reviewing systems to ensure they are effective.

*Taking appropriate action when system capacity and usage escalation limits are reached.

Qualifications

*Proven track record in providing effective technical support

*Good communication skills in order to work effectively throughout the organisation and with external contractors and suppliers

*Maintaining the highest level of customer centric support through proactive management and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives

*Flexibility to use a variety of supporting technologies, the ability to work under pressure and be capable of balancing competing demands and priorities

*Highly resilient, proactive and positive attitude and approach

*Network Design Engineer with strong multi-vendor administration skills (HP/DELL/CISCO/JUNIPER/CHECKPOINT/F5), and the design of secure, resilient, available networks

*Applicants must hold a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Administrator) qualification and CCNP or equivalent

Whilst carrying out these duties the post holder requires organisational skills so that they can carry out their work with the minimum of supervision. They should also be proactive in identifying any enhancements that could lead to improved performance of its staff and equipment.

There may be a need to cover "out of hours" cover on a rota basis.
