We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a DevOps Engineer to join the Application Services, Group Technology & Change team, in our Edinburgh office.

The Engineering team supports Group Technology & Change (GTC) to enable competitive advantage through technology and change by providing people, tools and automation that help to power our development and test teams to deliver reliably and efficiently.

As a successful candidate, you will work closely with application development and test teams in the business, bringing your natural strengths, technical expertise, enthusiasm, and personal skills to deliver and continuously improve technical services and solutions in the Engineering team.

You will have a background in software development and application lifecycle management, with interest and relevant experience in the automation of continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines. You will join a dynamic environment in a leading financial services employer investing in ambitious business and digital transformation plans.

What will you be doing

Delivery of technical solutions and processes within own area of technical expertise, in collaboration with members of the team and others across Group Technology & Change (GTC).

Contribute to the ongoing development and maturity of continuous deployment and continuous delivery services (CI/CD) across the Group, improving pipelines, managing complexity, supporting platforms and tools.

Document and agree designs, and contribute to ongoing maintenance and management of knowledge information, documentation and standards.

Provide technical support on own area of expertise to other members of the team and GTC, and contribute to sharing of knowledge and experience across common areas of practice, including development, testing, release and operations.

Develop technical expertise and provide support for environmental configuration and release across a wide and complex range of legacy and modern platforms and applications.

Provide technical expertise and support for one or more development and testing platforms.

Quality assurance, consistency and adherence to guidelines, standards and common practise in your own work and in review of others.

Work with others to ensure testing and safe implementation of changes to production, adhering to Group change and service integration processes.

What we're looking for

Experience of modern CI/CD and Release Management concepts and practices

Experience with software build and release pipeline automation tools such as Jira, Jenkins, Microsoft TFS, Azure DevOps

Experience of Microsoft environments such as Visual Studio and .NET technologies is advantageous

Familiar with infrastructure, servers, network, and security configuration and concepts.

Linux, containers, and public cloud (Azure preferred) experience beneficial

Good understanding of the full software development lifecycle

Skills that will help you in the role

Experience of automation, scripting and orchestration in provision, configuration and management of test environments and software and infrastructure pipelines

Powershell experience advantageous, with proven ability to pick up diverse tools and languages

(e.g. SQL, ANT, IVY, Ruby, Python)

Familiarity with setup, administration, and management of development and testing products and toolsets e.g Visual Studio, Micro Focus Performance Center

Familiar with agile development practices

Building and maintaining good relationships through trust and collaboration
