ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEERLocation: PlymouthRate: £37.00/hr ltdDuration: 6 months Devonport, in Plymouth, supports the Royal Navy's current surface ship and submarine fleets.Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines and various warships.It has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy's new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme, including Astute and Dreadnought class.As such, there is various work packages planned and they require a suitably qualified Electrical Design Engineer to work on various aspects of the Dockyard.Qualifications

You should hold an honours degree, or comparable academic standard in an appropriate discipline and, ideally, hold Chartered Engineer status via an appropriate Institution.Also, candidates with extensive and relevant experience will be considered suitable. You should able to achieve SC Clearance Level. You should have demonstrable evidence of having worked in the field of the appropriate discipline design, analysis and technical management.Tasks and ResponsibilitiesDesign FunctionManaging design work in appropriate engineering disciplines.Acting as Design Authority for engineering aspects.Authorising design documentation as required.Chairmanship of Design Reviews (of appropriate Categorisation) to identify best technical solution to fulfil Project objectives.Managing design projects in accordance with Company Procedures.Providing professional engineering support to surface ship, submarine, commercial and equipment projects.Performance and management of system requirements, concept design and modelling.Ability to manage a team to interpret a design requirement and create a design solution.Acting as Independent Technical Assessor.Preparation of Project and Department Plans and Tracking and Forecasting, Assistance in Preparation of Bids in related subjects. BiddingManaging design teams involved in the preparation of technical aspects with commercial tenders.Managing preparation of Technical Reviews in support of tender responses requiring design input. ProjectActing as Design Manager responsible to Project Manager for Projects.Management of technical aspects of work carried out by sub-contractors and/or suppliers.Liaising with Project Team to resolve Project issues.Liaising with Production Team to resolve manufacturing problems.
