To match our growing portfolio, we have a number of opportunities available across all levels within our `Chief Engineer` team that ensures effective, fit-for-purpose, safe outcomes for all UKAEA engineering activities. At this level you will be eligible for appointment as Facility Chief Engineer of lower complexity facilities such as the Materials Research Facility Mezzanine (a multi-functional testing space for bespoke technology development) and support the team leader for other higher hazard facilities. Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities This role upholds the design intent of our facilities, see the job description in the application pack for more details: Design Basis: To provide specialist knowledge of and/or translation between several engineering disciplines to allow acceptance or rejection of plant proposals, modification, exceptional operations and non-conformances. Technical Risk Management: To ensure that the operational envelope of the facilities is defined with an appropriate balance of technical risk between performance, reliability and lifetime. In turn, seeking improved operational performance, utilisation and reliability on an ongoing basis. Processes & Standards: To apply UKAEA Quality Management System and ways of working. Strives to enshrine accrued knowledge and lessons learned in improved training, processes and ways of working that can be leveraged across UKAEA. Our Mission? In a period of growth after the award of substantial funds from government, we are: operating two world class plasma science devices (JET, MAST-U) building a portfolio of diverse technology development facilities in support of the fusion fuel cycle (AGHS, H3AT), state-of-the-art robotic maintenance (RACE) together with pushing the bounds of materials and manufacturing technology (MRF, FTF) designing power plants partnered third parties in the UK (STEP) and Europe (DEMO). You? Ideally you will strengthen and complement our existing team with experience that includes: - Delivery across the plant lifecycle for novel, potentially complex plant in industrial and/or research settings (e.g. manufacturing, medical devices, aerospace, academia) - Application of industrial regulations, codes, standards and norms - Track-record working within and leading multi-disciplinary teams with various specialisms (e.g. Operations; Safety Case; Asset Management & Maintenance; Quality Assurance; Safety & Environment) Your education should include a degree (or equivalent experience) in a technical topic such as mechanical / electrical / chemical engineering, materials science, physics, etc You have endorsed your professional progression via membership of a recognised professional body. If not, we`ll support this in your new role. Your professional training might include IOSH Managing Safely. As a key part of our engineering governance, you`ll be a role model.
