This Storage and Backup engineer role is a new position within the project Services SAN Team. This team designs and delivers Storage and Backup environments for new clients and technology refreshes of existing clients. We perform changes to these environments, creating or expanding LUNS, creating or decommissioning backups, expanding storage arrays and backup appliances, and providing SME skills to projects using these technologies to support their businesses. Working in this team you will have skills in NetBackup, storage arrays, fibre channel switches.

Must be able to work on own initiative and under guidance from senior team members. May need to work remotely, from home or customers' sites, as required.

Key activities and abilities of the Storage and Backup Project Consultant:

Able to plan implementations based on Low Level Designs.

Identify and assess technical issues and risks.

Provision/decommission of hardware into the Datacentre complying to DCM processes.

Cabling, following documented Low Level Designs and DCM best practices.

Configuration of specific hardware requiring a datacentre presence.

Patching following documented Low Level Designs and best practices.

Provide Project with On Call support and perform Out of hours change work as and when required.

Provide documentation and information to transition support to BAU teams.

Perform Firmware updates in-line with best practices.

Ability to follow detailed implementation plans.

Good communication skills, both verbal and written.

Broad range of storage platform experience.

Implementation experience of multiple backup platforms.

Brocade switch configuration.

Fibre Patching.

Data Centre migration.

Service take-on experience.

Escorting of 3rd party support Engineers.

Specific Skills:

NetApp (FC, CIFS, Snapmirror)

EMC VNX

NetBackup (Solaris and Windows)

Cisco switches

Brocade switches

Tape libraries

Command line skills

Desirable Skills:

DataCore SAN symphony

HP 3PAR

HP Data Protector

Basic Network troubleshooting

General NAS experience

Documentation

Provide cost estimates on changes

Liaise with 3rd parties

Develop minor Low Level Designs in line with High Level Designs.

Identify Performance Issues

Design & Test Disaster Recovery Plans
