The London North Eastern and East Midlands Route (LNE&EM) runs fromthe Scottish Borders to London Kings Cross / St Pancras, connecting major townsand cities in the North, North East and Midlands.

Our route covers key lines for commuter, cross-country andlong-distance travel both north-south and east-west for both passenger andfreight services.

Passenger numbers are growing rapidly across the route and are expectedto increase by 30 per cent by 2023. Ongoing work in the route to boost networkcapacity includes junction improvements, additional track, and trainlengthening schemes, all as part of the national Railway Upgrade Plan

Brief Description 

The post is within the LNE Distribution andPlant (D&P) Route Asset Management (RAM) Team. We manage the electricaldistribution and plant assets through their lifespan across the route fromconception to renewal and beyond. We strive to improve the reliability of ourassets and provide a continually better experience for passengers, this ischallenging but also very rewarding.

It is currently a significant time of change for the railway andElectrification plays a key part in the future with strong links todecarbonisation, increased efficiency and performance improvement of therailway.

The RAM team are centric to the development and management ofelectrical distribution and plant assets and as such the team is involved in anumber of high-profile electrical projects at varying stages of theirlifecycles, which are delivering the necessary upgrades, renewals and newassets to meet the evolving needs of the route into the future.

You will play a key role in leading the determination and developmentof D&P engineering requirements to support renewal, refurbishment andenhancement investment interventions by leading the production of projectrequirement specifications and acceptance criteria for electrical distributionand plant engineering works to achieve the required scope and quality inaccordance with company asset policies.

We are at the cutting edge of technology development and deploymentwith the first UK Static Frequency Convertor (SFC) supply point recentlycommissioned and in service on the route. We also have four further SFCs invarious stages of design.

About the role

It is imperative you have...           

IncorporatedEngineer  

Degreein electrical engineering or equivalent demonstrable experience 

Anunderstanding of power modelling processes, methods and software

Anunderstanding of policy and technical, safety and performance standardsrelating to electrical engineering

Membershipof relevant professional institution

Substantialdistribution & plant engineering experience, particularly related to highvoltage electrical power systems

Holdrelevant professional and technical qualifications, or capable of achievingwithin reasonable timescales

Anunderstanding of the Network Rail Asset Management Policy and processes

Acomprehensive understanding of the GRIP process and its application

Holdsvalid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain

It is advantageous if you have...

CharteredEngineer

Experienceof modelling power systems using industry standard software

Anunderstanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques

Knowledgeof investment processes and procedures, including relevant computer systems

Experiencein the integration of complex engineering systems

Knowledgeof project management techniques

We adhere to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within thefollowing pay range: starting at£51,156 per annum to £57,551 per annum
