About the role We now have an opportunity for an Electronics Engineer to assist the Diamond Detector Group in the installation and commissioning of detectors and associated electronics for synchrotron X-ray experiments. You will be responsible for the design and prototyping of analogue and digital electronic interfaces for detectors, as well as the testing and benchmarking of detector electronics and readout systems. Further responsibilities will include: Involvement in assembly for detector electronics, including rack based systems such as NIM, VME and MicroTCA. Assisting in the installation of beamline detector and diagnostic systems. General laboratory work for commissioning, including some electrical cabling, building of simple mechanical devices and detailed commissioning of electronics. Development of equipment, upgrading existing beamline detector and diagnostics based equipment. Assisting in installation and commissioning of further specialist diagnostics and detector equipment. Ownership for small specific projects in the detector development programme. About You:

You should be educated to degree level in Electronics Engineering or demonstrate significant equivalent experience. Membership of a relevant Professional Institute is desirable. You will have experience in electronics and instrumentation design, build, installation and commission, from small projects to large detectors. You will also demonstrate experience in electronics systems commissioning and fault finding, while any experience from large scientific facilities or synchrotrons is desirable, as is previous detector experience. You will demonstrate ability in circuit board building and testing, soldering and use of test equipment (DMM oscilloscopes etc.), along with the ability to analyse requirements and problems and then produce and implement solutions. Use of data analysis applications such as Matlab, CAD software, schematic capture and layout in Allegro, and experience with Linux and a programming language, (e.g C++, Java, Python) will be beneficial. You will display excellent communication, interpersonal and presentational skills to interact effectively with staff at all levels and to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
