Are you a Controls Engineer who would love to spend more time coding and less time on drawing up wiring diagrams?If you are closer to being a software developer than to an electrical engineer then this may be the perfect role for you. You would be working for a leading global supplier of integrated solutions for a range of different industries including industrial, pharmaceutical, chemical, scientific, process, glass coating and food packaging industries as well as a wide range of R&D applications.They are a global leader in new technology and the company employ around 3000 people worldwide in the design, manufacture and support of high technology equipment. The business is highly innovative; customer focused and has grown rapidly over recent years. It offers all the advantages of a small pioneering niche company but backed up by the security and professionalism of a global company. Due to a significant amount of growth the company require a Controls Engineer to join their purpose-built R&D centre of excellence near Bristol.This Senior Controls Engineer role will be part of a multi-disciplined team developing PLC-based control systems for high technology systems. You will develop the process control software and therefore must be proficient in PLC programming. The software architecture used within the company is increasingly object oriented, and therefore experience of advanced architectures would be an advantage.Your key activities will include PLC coding using ladder logic, structured text and function blocks, and HMI design and configuration using VB.net or C#A rigorous and structured approach to hardware and software design is required. In addition to PLC expertise, if you have specific experience of Microsoft Visual Studio (VB.net or C#) you'll be at an advantage. If not, then a demonstrated passion and aptitude for higher-level programming languages is essential.You'll be a team player, able to work closely with fellow engineers and colleagues from around the world. This is a global business, so you will get to enjoy the variety of occasional short-term international trips.You should have at least three years' experience working in a similar environment. This experience will preferably have been gained in special purpose equipment or process industries, but this is not essential.This role would provide a salary of £35,000 - £50,000 depending upon experience, plus an excellent benefits package including 25 days holiday, generous pension scheme, life cover, health cash plan, personal development & training plans, annual salary reviews and company bonus scheme averaging 7.5%.
