If you enjoy leading and shaping technical teams and have significant experience in senior software engineering this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role supporting the digital transformation of The UK Hydrographic Office.
The UK Hydrographic Office is a leading centre for hydrography, providing marine geospatial data to inform maritime decisions. We work with a wide range of data suppliers and partners to support maritime navigation, safety, security and marine development around the UK and worldwide.
As Head of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for the management of our software engineering capability, producing internal/external digital services and products and advocating the use of modern software engineering practices across the organisation. You will set the strategy and manage resource allocation to support corporate objectives and will also fulfil organisational requirements for software delivery. This will include some outsourcing.
This role will also provide the opportunity to build and maintain collaborations and relationships across the Government/MoD and with third parties that may be contracted to deliver specific capabilities or research.
You will need solid technical experience across software engineering technologies/practices, digital delivery and good leadership experience in technical areas as you will be responsible for the direct and indirect management of a number of technical staff. A deep understanding of modern software engineering and DevOps practices and experience of delivering complex, multi-faceted software engineering projects is also essential.
