A client of Spring Technologies are currently recruiting for a Senior Platform Engineer

Based in Edinburgh on an initial 12 month contract with the option to extend.

Responsible for the performance, availability, integrity and security of the clients infrastructure platform, which is built on VCE VxBlock, with Cisco LAN and WAN interconnects, over two separate Data Centres and 3 physical locations, with triangulated WAN links, which currently hosts some 2000 virtual servers

The role covers multiple areas across virtualisation, backup, monitoring, storage and modern DevOps working practices, with a strong focus on Backup, data integrity and management.

*EMC Avamar / Data Domain experience

*Managing workloads using Kanban techniques and/or other team defined methodologies

*Take part in the design, planning and deployment of new technologies (e.g. vRealize Automation orchestration, vROPS, VMware NSX, RHEL server re-platforming, SAN migration, DR and BC enhancement) as skills and experience allow.

*Strong sense of ownership and duty of care to the platform.

*Propose and implement transformational actives which improve the platform.

*Managing platform health, availability, integrity and currency to an acceptable level.

*Ensure appropriate access controls are in place, monitored and adhered with.

*Monitor, manage and where necessary improve performance of network and platform to meet the expectations of the end-users.

*Work with multi-skilled DevOps teams where skills allow and the need arises.

*Work closely with design authority, PMO, the test team and developers.

*Review designs to meet system capacity requirements.

*Create and maintain system and network documentation as appropriate (e.g. MS Visio diagrams, system admin docs.
