As a Conventional Safety & Environment Manager you will be r eporting to the Head of HSE and based on a sound understanding of the local HSE performance and risk profile, lead HSE locally in support of Submarines' priorities. Be the principal HSE point of contact for assigned responsibilities and accountabilities. Deliver on agreed improvement plans and be proactive in seeking out emerging issues. Identify and promote good practice. Work collaboratively with Business HSE and the wider HSE function, to build a sense of team, and alignment to Business and functional strategies.

Key Accountabilities:

*Be the Conventional Safety, Safety Culture & Environment Manager / specialist for Submarines, accountable for the performance and results of Conventional Safety, Safety Culture & Environment.

*Provide specialist Conventional Safety, Safety Culture & Environment guidance, leadership and direction to the business, peers and associated teams.

*Maintain good risk management (including up to date local risk profiles) and drive prioritised improvement actions. Identify common issues and incorporate them in business-based improvement programmes.

*In partnership with management, deliver good HSE governance (structure, process and content) locally, including the HSE Accountability Framework. Monitor the effectiveness of the governance structures and raise concerns when improvements are required.

*Lead the timely identification of local HSE priorities and prepare supporting business cases as needed. Help prepare the HSE BPD by considering resource constraints etc. Lead projects, including project plans, monitor business wide progress and support leadership in sponsoring and managing these. Monitor local progress to the BPD through HSE governance arrangements and interface with and feedback on any Global HSE Services provision.

*Develop the local risk-based assurance programme that is consistent with the Business programme (including compliance with legal and other requirements). Monitor progress and support business leaders in delivering lower tier assurance plans. Interpret, communicate and drive action on trends and insights. Use assurance findings to improve risk management.

Qualifications and Experience :

*HSE related degree educated and/or professional certifications.

*Chartered or working towards chartered membership of IOSH, membership of IEMA would be an advantage.

*Experienced in providing HSE advice and risk based solutions.

*Have a proven track record in conventional safety, safety culture and environment based management.

*The ability to influence and facilitate ownership and commitment by good management and active participation.

*Knowledge of the business area, specific risks and industry approaches would be advantageous.

Due to the nature and urgency of this post, candidates holding or who have held high level security clearance in the past are most welcome to apply. Please note successful applicants will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment which can take up to a minimum 18 weeks.
