BI Developer

Join our IT Department and enhance our business intelligence systems to help us make better decisions.

Over the past few months we've set up new enterprise systems to cover all the applications we use. And in 2020 we're moving to a private cloud data centre where we'll work with cutting-edge technologies in Azure.

Our Freshfields Hub is responsible for delivering high-quality legal solutions, supported by advanced legal technology, to provide high value to the firm and our clients.

The Role

You'll be working alongside our International Senior Leadership Team to offer transactional support to the global firm.

You'll use established processes and procedures to ensure consistent and high quality work, providing technology and support to enable fee earners and business services employees to operate efficiently, both internally and with clients.

Working with other teams' stakeholders, you'll identify and implement improvements and new requirements, and demonstrate reporting capabilities to the team and wider business.

Key Responsibilities

Translating business needs into technical specifications, you'll be responsible for developing and building new and existing data models.

Design and manage new and existing ETL processes feeding the data warehouse;

Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting for data solutions;

Manage and improve processes for the migration of reporting solutions through the various environments;

Deploy new releases into testing and production environments;

Maintain accurate documentation of data models and processes.

 About You

We're looking for a self-driven, detailed and results-oriented person with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high quality.

You're a natural forward planner who critically assesses your own performance. And you're credible and comfortable when dealing with internal customers and stakeholders.

Essential experience and technical skills

With a relevant degree or equivalent knowledge gained from professional experience, you'll have a good understanding of ETL frameworks and processes.

You know how to communicate clearly with stakeholders so that business requirements are easily understood.

Advanced SQL database development - SQL Server 2014-2016.

Experience of designing and developing cubes in SSAS (tabular or multidimensional)

A good understanding of data modelling and Kimball methodologies (Star Schema, Snowflake).

Desired experience and technical skills

Ideally, you'll have demonstrable experience of developing BI solutions using the Microsoft full stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS).

Experience of developing Powershell scripts for deployment or automation purposes;

Knowledge of DAX and/or MDX;

Any exposure to SQL DBA tasks - such as backup and restore, database tuning (indexing, table partitioning) and maintenance plans - would be beneficial;

Familiarity with version control;

Comfortable working in a legal environment.

 Benefits

Our brand new offices are located in Spinningfields, a vibrant area in central Manchester with good access to other parts of the city. It's a popular destination for entertainment and shopping with lots of bars and restaurants, etc.

Our hot desking environment ensures a very sociable atmosphere;

We also offer flexible working, so you'll have the chance to work from home too.
