Border Force is an operational command of the Home Office. Our strategic aim is to secure the UK's border and promote national prosperity. Border Force delivers this by undertaking immigration, customs and security checks on passengers and freight crossing the UK border. Under the Director General, Paul Lincoln, Border Force is undertaking a significant transformation programme to deliver its goal of being the best Border Force in the world, built around our core values of: respect, discipline, dedication and moral courage.
The Industry Partnerships team performs an essential role at the heart of Border Force, leading on important activity around engagement with industry partners.
The team is headed by Director Scott Ghagan and sits within the Border Force Strategic Capabilities and Planning Directorate. This post is one of three Deputy Director roles, supported by Assistant Directors and a pool of staff at SEO and HEO grades who work across the various strands.
The team's work is diverse, involving working with port operators, wider industry and other Government Departments to establish strong and effective relationships. Industry Partnerships supports Border Force operations in Port Expansion (largely cost avoidance), Income Generation and Stakeholder Engagement.
The Deputy Director Border Code will lead on a project which is fundamental to the Home Office's transformation plans for the border. The desired outcome is a set of standards and interfaces that helps deliver a secure border by allowing ports to innovate by deploying infrastructure of their choice which meshes with our architecture and works towards an improved passenger journey.
We are seeking a hardworking individual to fill this challenging post. You will play a pivotal leadership role leading the team to frame and then deliver a successful Border Code.
This is a chance to find opportunities for greater innovation with industry at the border with the potential to identify funding mechanisms for that innovation. In this role you'll have a real chance to create new services and be at the heart of change.
You will be a strong contender for this key role if you have a proven track record of project work with delivery focus, have created and lead virtual teams, framed and taken through legislation, as well as having an understanding of assurance, excellent written skills and visibility as a leader.
You will have strong policy, communication and engagement skills, be able to draft at pace, have a track record in gaining and maintaining the trust of senior leaders (both Government and industry), building and leveraging good working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders with the ability to challenge in a constructive manner. Ideally you will possess commercial acumen gained in Government or industry.
It would also be beneficial if you have experience or an understanding of working on both the demand and supply side of issues and understand the effects and opportunities derived from industry growth.
