Data Specialist (SQL, SAS)

Salary: £30,000-£40,000

Location: Milton Keynes

Type: Fixed-Term Contract 12 months

Based within the Data Quality department of a major bank, an opportunity has arisen to join their Big Data team on a fixed-term basis.

The Role:

To support a range of certification projects and creation of control models that covers the entire scope of the big data platform. Utilise a range of different technologies to provide this service and to deliver controls that are in line with the needs of the business. Main Duties:Define, execute and monitor metrics to support the Certification and validation of data in Hadoop.Understand and interpret technical documentation.Understanding of Complicated Data Ingestion, extract transform and load processes (ETL), and Streaming technologies.Develop and document a control model with appropriate controlsWork closely with Governance teams to determine the appropriate certification controls to run.Be able to work using agile methodologies.Create, monitor, and update test scripts on our software testing software.Proactively identify the improvements / efficiencies needed in Big Data validation and reconciliation processes.Ability to understand and communicate the risk associated with an incident.Provide support and technical expertise in all tasks and projects including managing stakeholders and regular updates to all parties, senior management and committees facilitate change initiatives.Deputise for other team members and represent the team more widely in different forums.Represent the department in various meetings and workshops as the knowledge expert - project, testing and development either in a face-to-face environment or telephone conferences.Relationship manage activities with IT and Operational areas.Deliver a sound control mechanism for maintaining the data quality in Hadoop.Constantly analyse ways to refine controls and improve ways of working without compromising on quality.Proven ability in identifying, analysing and successfully resolving issues. Key Requirements:Good Experience in SAS / SQL including base SAS and SAS Macros.Experience in using Microsoft Office Applications including Excel (e.g. Pivot tables & formulas) and PowerPoint.Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills able to build good relations with departments in the business, IT and Risk.Experience of performing reconciliations and analysing large volumes of data.Experience in developing and running System ControlsDesirableKnowledge of Hadoop technologies preferable (Hive / Impala).Experience in advanced Excel / VBA desirable.Experience of Data Science tools (Python / R), Pipeline (Git / Jenkins / Nexus), or Spark/Scala programming languages a huge bonus
