If there's one characteristic that drives Auto Trader developers, it's curiosity. Our team of innovators stay right at the forefront, anticipating the future and developing the systems that power our market-leading mobile applications - making them faster, more reliable and more sophisticated.
Join our native apps team as Senior Android Developer, and you'll dive into our core customer journey, bringing new, creative thinking to our mobile platforms. Our app is highly rated, and you'll make a big contribution to how it is written, coding entirely in Kotlin and building your own APIs. This is a team that's constantly looking for new ideas and opportunities. And as our app generates over 50% of our ad views and hosts a million of our customers, you'll really enjoy the impact that comes from working so close to the end user.
How we work is as important as what we do. In this ideas-led and data-driven environment, we run a tribe-based, multifunctional, agile system where each tribe focuses on a different customer group. Open-minded and team-spirited, you'll be happy talking about Android architecture and able to get the very best out of this environment.
We'll look to you to collaborate with developers, testers, product leads and data analysts throughout our business, to break new ground and find the solutions fuelling our reputation as the industry leader. Generous with your time, our Senior Developers also play a key role in the development of our apprentices, graduates and professional developers so you'll have experience coaching and mentoring people at different stages of their career.
What you'll bring

Experience in a similar role, building and supporting Android apps with object-oriented and asynchronous programming techniques, ideally, Kotlin coroutines
Experience with Java and ideally Kotlin
Familiarity with Android Studio
A background in Android architecture components, especially Room.
A track record in unit testing
The flexibility to thrive in an Agile, collaborative software delivery environment
Experience of coaching and mentoring people at different stages of their career
Skills in Espresso, Robelectric or TDD (these are desirable but not essential).

Attractive rewards
You can look forward to a great flexible benefits package including up to 25 days' holiday, pension and healthcare. We'll also give you time and support so you can develop your career. Our developers attend conferences worldwide, we host external meet-ups in our event space and offer masterclasses focusing on communication, team working and leadership. Progress here is not limited to what you learn at your desk.
