Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, innovative team, working on cutting edge technology. Bring your technical engineering expertise and we'll give you every opportunity to enhance and grow your professional experience.

Where you fit

This is a chance to join one of our new innovation hubs at Shell, bringing your talent and excellent communication skills to a role as DevOps Engineer.

At Shell's Agile Hub, we're taking pride in doing things differently - by taking a unique approach of balancing human-centred and digital design with an agile technology capability to tackle complex problems in original ways.

Joining a proactive team of engineers, and with a huge variety of potential projects to grow across the business, you'll be challenged to think innovatively, with many different areas to investigate.

What's the role?

As DevOps Engineer, you'll thrive on working smart, as you build environments for Agile projects, always on the lookout for opportunities and remaining continually curious as to why things happen.

Your responsibilities will be wide-ranging, from responding to and fixing issues of all sizes and prevent them from happening again, to working with subject matter experts to learn new skills and integrate them into team learnings. Other duties will include:

Developing alerts to improve our monitoring.
Co-ordinating incidents, including alerts to other engineering teams.
Writing and refining troubleshooting guides and documentation.

What we need from you

We're keen to hear from men and women with DevOps Engineering experience, relevant expertise as a developer, a strong background in Linux as well as strong Kubernetes experience. Plus, we'd also hope to see as many of the following on your CV:

Experience of Agile and/or DAD (Scrum & Kanban), plus experience using Docker and programming in Hashicorp Terraform, Bash, Python and Ansible.
Strong experience of Kubernetes in building environments from scratch, preferably over PaaS. Exposure to Kops, Kubespray and Kubeadm is also advantageous
An understanding of Microservice based Architecture.
An ability to implement infrastructure as code.
A strong understanding of web server application design.
An understanding of application security and information security controls.
Data Science platform experience, plus monitoring and logging platforms, will be an advantage.
Knowledge of configuration management tools.
Experience in Javascript development and mobile app development is also desirable.

An innovative place to work

There's never been a more exciting time to work at Shell. Everyone here is helping solve one of the biggest challenges facing the world today: bringing the benefits of energy to everyone on the planet, whilst managing the risks of climate change.

Join us and you'll add your talent and imagination to a business with the power to shape the future - whether by investing in renewables, exploring new ways to store energy or developing technology that helps the world to use energy more efficiently.

An inclusive place to work

To power progress together, we need to attract and develop the brightest minds and make sure every voice is heard. Here are just some of the ways we're nurturing an inclusive environment - one where you can express your ideas, extend your skills and reach your potential...

We're creating a space where people with disabilities can excel through transparent recruitment process, workplace adjustments and ongoing support in their roles. Feel free to let us know about your circumstances when you apply and we'll take it from there.
We're closing the gender gap - whether that's through action on equal pay or by enabling more women to reach senior roles in engineering and technology.
We're striving to be a pioneer of an inclusive and diverse workplace, promoting equality for employees regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
We consider ourselves a flexible employer and want to support you finding the right balance. We encourage you to discuss this with us in your application.

A rewarding place to work

Combine our creative, collaborative environment and global operations with an impressive range of benefits and joining Shell becomes an inspired career choice.

We're huge advocates for career development. We'll encourage you to try new roles and experience new settings. By pushing people to reach their potential, we frequently help them find skills they never knew they had, or make career moves they never thought possible.
