They say that the average job seeker spends around 60 seconds reading through a job advert before deciding whether to press 'apply' or 'next'. This is especially true in today's world of poorly written job adverts, repetitive content and recruiters who fail to properly market their roles. So with that in mind, I wanted to try and craft something short and (hopefully) sweet that might just grab your attention...One of the most innovative Tech Start-Ups in the London area is looking to significantly bolster their senior leadership team by recruiting an experienced and driven VP of Software Engineering. The organisation themselves are the true definition of a 'technology disrupter', with their suite of products offering a new flavour to a competitive market. Their products are all developed in-house, using the latest cloud/data technologies with a talented team of Software Engineers using their expertise to ensure the solutions are both high-quality and scalable. This role represents an excellent opportunity to come in and literally help shape something from the ground up. You'll lead the engineering team that is responsible for their core services, including global infrastructure, realtime messaging fabric, client software and various supporting services. You'll report to the CEO, working under the technical authority of the CTO, and have responsibility for all aspects of delivery of the core service. But enough about them, this ad is all about you... specifically, what you need to bring to the table:Software Engineering Background - First and foremost, you must have a proven track record leading engineering teams and come from an engineering background. This role will be 20% hands on and will involve working closely with a range of technologies including Java 8, Golang, Ruby and NodeJS. Stakeholder Management - Due to the nature of this business (i.e. a Tech-Start Up with less than 20 employees), your role will see you acting as something of an 'Internal Consultant', liaising with different parts of the business to understand where to make a difference. You should therefore have a proven track record engaging with key business stakeholders (up to C-level), with a natural ability to both influence and manage expectations.Leadership & People Management - You must have a proven track record of leading successful teams, including an ability to 'remove blockers' from the software engineering process and also an ability to improve engineers through tailored coaching methods. You should be fully versed in Agile methodologies and understand how successful software engineering teams tick.Architecture - Finally, you must have a comprehensive understanding of software architecture including cloud native architecture, Microservices and SOA. You will work closely with the CTO and have overall responsibility for designing their solutions, so this is a mandatory requirement. In summary, they are looking for a high-energy person with a genuine passion for implementing change and an understanding of people and how they form the heart and soul of an organisation.
