If you are a proven agile project manager and have a keen interest in the challenges and opportunities that digital platforms pose for our society and the wider economy this is the role for you.

The Data, Technology and Analytics (DaTA) Unit helps the Competition and Market Authority (CMA) stay on the leading edge of data and technology. We engineer complex data; deploy advanced machine learning and Artificial Intelligence solutions; and help the CMA understand how firms are using data and technology, what their algorithms do, and how algorithms are interacting to form the markets we see.

Since the launch of the Unit earlier this year, we have established a strong data science and engineering team with a collaborative and open culture. This is supported by cutting edge technology and agile project management. We are now adding a Head of Operations to our team to lead the operations function.

As Head of Operations, you will line manage two Project Managers and form a key part of the DaTA unit management team supporting the unit in its programme of work. This encompasses contributions to CMA cases through creating software tools, gathering and manipulating data, providing data and technology analysis and insight and the creation of publications and other thought leadership materials. You will own the Unit's operating model, driving its continual development and adopting best practice from digital, agile delivery.

You will manage data scientists and engineers in the team and provide project management capabilities, flexibly working with agile and waterfall methods. You will also provide oversight on project planning as well as defining the scope of projects and leading on individual workstreams.

The role requires significant experience in leading teams and agile projects and workstreams within projects (preferably digital projects and products). If you can evidence this experience and have strong people skills, are able to be build relationships with multiple stakeholders and have the ability to manage the output of others to strict deadlines, we would like to hear from you.

In return the CMA is a hugely diverse, rewarding and stimulating place to work - an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.

Closing date for applications: 11:55pm on 4 November 2019.

The CMA are an accredited Disability Confident Employer, and we are an equal opportunities employer, welcoming suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds.

We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.
