Our client, a leading outsourcing company require an experienced Front End Developer for an initial 6 month contract based in Newcastle. The role:Build, deploy and operate outstanding digital services within an agile environment that meet well-defined user needsProvide mentorship and/or line management for more junior Front-end developers where necessaryContribute to a culture of continual improvement in which key systems "owned" by your digital service team are regularly analysed, maintained and improved.Contribute to a robust automated test suite to work in a continuous integration environmentBecome involved in the wider web development community (outside of HMRC and the government), building relationships with other front-end developers and identifying best practices we can adoptSharing knowledge of tools and techniques with technical and non-technical team members in the wider HMRC digital team and across governmentCompletion of work allocated within agreed time, cost and quality criteria and providing progress reports on assigned work as requiredPrompt escalation of problems, issues and risks as necessary Technologies:HTML, HTML5, CSS, CSS3, SASS, BEM (Block, Element and Modifier naming convention)Digital, Open Source, Scala, Play Framework, JSON, XML, Microservices, JavaScript, Node.js, REST, JUnit, Selenium (Automation), Git, Github, accessibility standards, WCAG 2.1, accessibility testing tools such as WAVE, Pa11y, SiteimproveTechnical Skills Required:Open Source & Digital experience - the ability to pick up new toolsScripting or basic programming skills. Familiarity with network protocols - TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, etc.Understanding of application deployment strategies and continuous integrationWorking within a product-centric environmentExperience with, and appreciation of, Agile/Lean development methods, practices and techniquesSolid development experience preferably in Open Source languageExperience with continuous integration tool, such as JenkinsExperience testing and automated testing tools, such as Selenium, Gatling, Cucumber, GherkinFamiliar with common diagnostic methodologies, and the deployment and use of monitoring tools incl.
