At HMGCC, we overcome challenges through technical excellence and offer unique careers in software and technology. From our high-tech facilities, we craft, design and create one-off products that push technology to its limits. It's why we offer apprenticeships unlike any other. As a Software Apprentice, you'll join our growing cyber team, work with sophisticated technology and equipment, and learn from some of the most accomplished software developers and cyber engineers around.
About the programme
Our two-and-a-half year development programme is designed to give you the best start to your career. You'll get involved in the whole software development and test process, while gaining new skills and experience in a range of computer languages and IT systems. This will see you work with forward-looking customers and systems engineers. And you'll get the chance to be creative, write and test code, and deliver awesome software and cyber results.
In your first year, you'll be put through a 3-month academic training phase, with face-to-face learning delivered off-the-job. It means you can build a solid foundation of practical skills and knowledge of technical programming. The rest of your training is based on blended learning through online modules, mentored on-the-job work placements and customer projects. And, to really top it off, we'll fund your membership with a professional organisation such as the British Computer Society.
The future
When you successfully complete the training, you'll achieve a nationally accredited Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship, and be offered a career at HMGCC. You'll then enter one of our Software teams, such as Development or Test & Evaluation. Wherever you find yourself at HMGCC, you'll continue to receive investment and training. In fact, if you have the potential and motivation, you'll find boundless opportunities to progress
About you
You'll come to us with a Level 3 Software Apprenticeship or with an equivalent qualification, such as an A Level in Computer Science or Maths. Alternatively, you'll have a BTEC National in Computing (or equivalent qualification). In addition, you'll have bags of curiosity and be professional, honest and reliable. You'll also be a resourceful thinker; excited about technology and eager to work with others to achieve your goals.
