What we're looking for:

We have a phenomenal opportunity to build, maintain and support a new cloud based big data platform as part of a large investment plan launched in the Chief Data Office team. Data is truly at the heart of our business strategy, and we want to create a platform where data is easily accessible and analysed to ensure we can deliver the best possible value to our customers.

We are looking for several Data Engineers to join us as we embark on this long term project. You will not be working on legacy systems but rather build and deploy the platform, ensuring its scaleability as we incorporate and move across the user cases and data sets. We are looking for someone who is dedicated and will seek to identify improvements and efficiencies, while utilising new technologies and existing tools.

Who you'll be working with:

You will work as part of a cross-functional agile delivery team, including analysts, architects, big data engineers, machine learning engineers, and testers. Nicola Klein is our Chief Data Officer and represents everything DLG stands for, approachability, visibility and expertise. Her wider data team is diverse and spread across our Leeds and Bromley sites, all adopting a true agile way of working with Scrum teams set up to make fast accurate decisions, learning and progressing fast.

We appreciate the knowledge and skills that each one of us brings to the business. It's hard not to be encouraged by the things that make us unique.

Boldness, curiosity and enthusiasm go a long way. And they're helping us transform the industry we lead.

What you'll be doing:

You will have the opportunity to work on complex problems, implementing high performance solutions that will run on top of our AWS based big data platform.

We will be looking to you to help us evolve common standards and best practices as we continue on our journey of change. You will be working across several other parts of the business, aligning and bringing on board their data sets as we strive to add value and support the wider business as we launch.

We want you to use your experience in engineering, optimising and debugging high performance data pipelines to contribute to the creation of data platforms. On the technical front we are still open minded, but we are looking for good coding skills in either Python, Java or Scala. We also hope to see exposure to big data technologies already, such as SQL querying in multiple databases systems such as Oracle, DB2, Teradata or Hive just to mention a few. The platform is AWS but if you have Azure or Google Cloud experience that skill can be transferable.

Experience with object oriented and functional design, coding, and testing patterns as well as experience in engineering software platforms and large-scale data infrastructures will come in handy here.

What we'll give you:

Come join us and you'll find yourself in the middle of one of the most on-the-go teams in the business, with autonomy and exposure to industry leaders on huge household brand names. We're always encouraging internal development and you'll have access to loads of learning opportunities, events and conferences to build your industry knowledge.
