A large e-commerce company with several successful websites across a number of industries including healthcare, personal protective equipment and the sports and fitness sector is seeking an in-house Mid-Level PHP Developer to join their existing team in Clapham, London. They are constantly launching new websites and moving into new sectors. Due to their growth and success, they require someone who can help them continue to develop software utilising REST APIs for in-house applications.

The ideal candidate is likely to have a natural curiosity for code. This curiosity will have developed into a fully-fledged immersive passion for coding and the interaction of data. You will have an enhanced ability to visualise the organisation and interaction of database tables in your mind when faced with a data-related challenge. You need to be a clear and logical thinker.

Your coding will be rooted in the use of MVC (Model View Controller) principles to structure your data. It is not enough to know what MVC is. You must be proficient in the use of MVC patterns. You will then be able to plan and execute data retrieval generating optimal data structures. You should have a sound understanding of OO (Object Oriented) based PHP and MySQL.

The ideal candidate will also consider UX (User Experience) when creating the UI (User Interface). You do not have to be a graphic designer, but the ability to present a UI that is elegant and usable is imperative.Previous commercial experience is preferred; the ideal candidate will be able to see the bigger commercial picture and understand the importance of meeting the needs of users within the business. The projects that you will deliver will become a critical part of the business’s operation.

They are building bespoke solutions for internal use from the ground up. They require someone who is able to start with a blank screen and create a solution from scratch. Although you will be working in a team and collaborating on your code using Github, you will be expected to create workable test modules for their system on your own.

Working alongside existing developers, you will need to be able to collaborate to take a project from a vision to a solution. Excellent communication skills are a must as you will be expected to share ideas about system improvements with the team and problem-solve together. It is not uncommon for their developers to over spec on a brief to add exciting and useful functionality for their users.
