Enigma People Solutions are looking for a Senior Laser Development Engineer to join our Glasgow based client in developing laser systems that help people. Our client's systems are deployed in a wide variety of markets including renewable energy, microelectronics, fundamental research, life sciences and medicine, they aim is to make a positive impact on everybody's life by providing customers with lasers with superior reliability and performance. Our client is a global leader in the manufacture of laser products. We are housed in a purpose built facility, with research and development, manufacturing and marketing all on one site. This opening comes at a time of exciting growth for the company with an opportunity to join a multidiscipline engineering team and shape the next generation of cutting edge laser products. You will work with other laser design engineers and liaise with other functional groups within the wider engineering group to help define and deliver products that meet our stringent performance and reliability targets and that will delight our customers. About the role Reporting into R&D this role is for a Senior Laser Development Engineer to perform laser system modelling, design and testing and be a key team member in laser development projects from concept through the full manufacturing release cycle. Responsibilities will include: Full ownership of feasibility studies in new laser development projects Design, construction and characterisation of prototype laser systems Defining best technical solutions to market requirements based on state of the art technology and techniques Troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis for prototype units through the development process Working both independently and interface with a larger team Establishing and nurturing relationships with key personnel at other sites worldwide, becoming a recognised expert in your area of work Creating project documentation and providing this to the project review team Traveling to other company facilities, suppliers, customers and trade shows Generate IP Education and Work Experience

You will have: PhD or equivalent, in laser development or relevant area of photonics or demonstrable experience of laser development in an industrial environment In depth understanding of the principles of optics and lasers and in particular ultrashort laser pulses, mode-locking techniques, fibre oscillators and amplifiers Practical experience of the construction and test of fibre based systems Experienced in the use of optical modelling software packages General understanding of electronics and control systems Good communication skills Ability to work on multiple tasks and manage priorities Able to work without detailed instructions either in isolation or as part of a wider team Awareness of current laser research and new developments in the field Detail-oriented, able to take general instructions and seek out all the elements needed to complete the assigned task Benefits Our client offers a great benefits package which includes but is not limited to: Pension Scheme - matches employee contribution plus 2% (up to a maximum of 7%) Private Medical Insurance (BUPA) Health Insurance Payable after 26 weeks of disability.
