Description A great opportunity has now arisen for an enthusiastic Trainee Project Manager to join the Project Management Office (PMO) at the British Antarctic Survey. You will be part of a team tasked with delivering one of the most exciting and challenging programmes of infrastructure projects ever commissioned by NERC/BAS. We are looking for someone with knowledge of the construction process (particularly those projects with significant building and or building services elements), knowledge of BREEAM or equivalent sustainability schemes and appreciation of project delivery in complex environments with multiple stakeholders. Purpose NERC/BAS takes delivery of its new polar research vessel, the Sir David Attenborough, later in 2019. This is part of a £225M programme of works, which also includes a number of land based infrastructure projects, such as wharf upgrades and station buildings and services improvements at the research stations. A separate programme of station improvements at Rothera (the UK Antarctic Hub) has also been agreed giving a total budget of over £300M currently being invested in improving our Antarctic infrastructure. These projects are known collectively as the Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP). Future phases of this programme have now been identified with significant additional spend over the next ten years. NERC/BAS has entered into long term partnering contracts with a Technical Advisor and a Construction Partner in order to deliver this challenging programme. The AIMP projects are part of a Government capital investment for the development of sustainable and efficient infrastructure. In addition, BAS is embarking on an extensive programme of transformation to achieve a number of objectives including using resources more effectively, realising the benefits of capital investments and the integration of BAS business systems and capability with other BAS functions.
BAS has set up a Project Management Office (PMO). This role sits within the PMO and supports all aspects of programme delivery for the AIMP and the interfaces with other BAS functions. Work with the Senior Information Manager and the Project Management Officer to ensure rigorous compliance with the Common Data Environment and the Project Management Plan.
Assist in preparation of all end of stage and end of project documentation, including BIM and Government Soft Landings.
Progress towards achievement of formal project management qualification. Pass the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ). In years 3 and 4 (Band D):
Note that progression to Band D is dependent on satisfactory performance against the duties and responsibilities listed above and successful achievement of the PMQ.
