About us

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is a central government department with a mission to protect our country and provide the ultimate guarantee of its security and independence, as well as helping to protect its values and interests abroad.

The Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO) was set up in April 2016 to oversee all aspects of the defence nuclear enterprise. We are a mixed military and civilian team of over 200 people, with a strong ethos of expertise and leadership, and most importantly, a set of values that seeks to build and reward diverse teams.
The Government is committed to renewing the UK's nuclear deterrent submarines programme. As such, this is a particularly exciting time to be involved in the work of the DNO.

The role

This is a new role at the heart of our organisation. As part of our senior management, you'll be responsible for building the team that provides strategic advice to the Director General Nuclear and other senior MoD officials.
Once in place, your team will advise officials on how to take a coherent multi-agency approach to some of the most challenging strategy questions around delivering nuclear capabilities safely and securely.
In addition to delivering a robust safety, security and information strategy, you'll enable our partners across the Submarine Delivery Agency, Navy Command HQ, Strategic Command (UK) and Defence Intelligence to work together to achieve the best outcomes for nuclear and defence.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a significant contribution to the ongoing development of the Defence Nuclear Organisation.
About you

Experience working in the safety, security or nuclear area.

Experience managing senior stakeholders within and across organisations.
Willing to question and challenge.
Able to quickly interpret, analyse and recommend using diverse data sources.

Able to initiate and implement change within an organisation.
Able to develop strategies and embed them into day-to-day working.
Experience leading teams, developing people and working collaboratively.
Excellent influencing skills and an ability to represent the MoD externally at a senior level.
