SENIOR APPLICATION ANALYST

Purpose of role:

This role is to provide technical assistance for applications supported by Information Systems.

Information Systems is a large and diverse team, supporting applications in both the procedural and facilities/core environment.

Information Systems is a collaborative, highly motivated team who are skilled in many applications and methodologies. We handle requests and issues from business areas together with project work to deliver new applications and technologies.

*This role will see the applicant working with members of Information Systems, ITP, Hosted Platforms, Architects and 3rd party vendor to technically review and support the development of platform capability and procedure enhancements in support of the transformation of the Cloud Operating model.

*The role also involves working alongside projects to assist in the delivery of those projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.

*Ensures all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods and procedures; and ensures that documentation is available, regularly reviewed and accessible to all who need to use it.

*Accepts, tests and implements new releases of application software from systems development staff or software suppliers; liaising with customers on the most appropriate windows for implementation; and ensuring that all relevant documentation associated with the implementation is completed within agreed timelines.

*Provides detailed advice and guidance to all users in the effective use of systems available to them; demonstrates ingenuity in applying knowledge to non-standard situations; and interprets and presents complex technical information to non-technical users.

Key Accountabilities:

*Schedules the work of applications support staff, taking account of individuals' abilities and the requirements of the work. Ensures all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods and procedures and that any applicable configuration management procedures are adhered to.

*Puts in place and maintains procedures and tools for the correct recording and progressing of requests for support. Ensures that appropriate application support tools are available and staff are trained to use them, and that adequate documentation for the applications supported is available and kept up to date.

*Monitors and manages performance of applications support activity. Takes full responsibility for their effectiveness. Takes action to remedy deficiencies.

*Initiates action, by systems development staff or software suppliers, on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems or further fulfil user requirements.

*Working with IT specialists, uses business experience and skills to assess and advise on: the usability and accessibility of different design and system options; the supportability and future maintenance of applications and services; appropriate business continuity and disaster recovery measures.

*Advises on tools and methods to be used for the detailed specification and modelling of non- functional requirements. Maintains links with appropriate counterparts within both software development and service delivery functions and assists in bringing systems to implementation as detailed by organisation policies and methods.

*Plans, designs and conducts tests of changes; corrects errors and re-tests to achieve an error-free result; assisting customers in defining acceptance tests for the non-functional aspects of systems, and takes responsibility for their proper execution.

*Accepts new releases of applications software from systems development staff or software suppliers and ensures that all releases and changes follow the agreed release/change process.

Specific skills and knowledge required

*Strong hands-on hardware and software ability and in-depth experience in a technical support role. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems and provide guidance to others.

*Demonstrates a concern and aptitude for considering the user's perspective in IT development with a comprehensive understanding of the business aspects of the application(s) supported and a thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of application support.

*Proven experience of working within an ITIL framework; managing incidents, requests, changes and problems through a service desk system.

*Proven experience in using information query tools that enable selective access to information held within some form of data repository, such as SQL.

*Knowledge and experience in supporting Windows Server Operating Systems at a functional level (e.g. Windows 2008 server).

*Excellent technical knowledge of hardware, supported operating systems and office productivity tools.

*Good knowledge of current and emerging end user devices, with the ability to learn new technologies quickly.

*Proven ability to engage proactively with ICT users to deliver excellent advice, support and solutions through a variety of methods, including coaching, and the ability to manage expectations.
