Asset Protection Scheme Interface Manager

About Network Rail:

Network Rail is revitalising Britain's railway on behalf of the passengers, freight customers and communities who rely upon us. We're building a safer, more reliable and more efficient railway than ever before. To do this we have a supportive, sharing, respectful and diverse culture where hardworking people are empowered to make the right decisions for our customers. Together, we're making a railway fit for the future. As the network continues to grow, you'll grow along with us.

Brief Description:

Due to an increasing workload (in terms of value, volume and complexity) it's an exciting time to join our team as we grow and develop our Asset Protection capabilities in the Eastern region.

We have a number of opportunities across project/construction management and engineering based at our four office locations.

The Asset Protection team assists external parties in the delivery of works that interface with the operational railway. We respond to 2500 queries per year ranging from simple lineside matters through to major interfacing projects (such as new bridges/major line adjacent developments) and including multimillion pound multidisciplinary schemes promoting external investment in the railway. Clients range from lineside neighbours through to government departments and blue chip companies.

We support the delivery of major projects by providing the interface and assurance roles for clients wishing to invest in the railway under the Open for Business programme initiatives. Current investment projects include new and enhanced stations and upgrades of existing freight lines to accommodate passenger services

About the Role:

By joining our Asset Protection (ASPRO) department, you will have the chance to be work on projects requested and funded by external clients who wish to construct something over, under or near the railway. As we enter a new 5 year period of investment and development, we are looking to grow our ASPRO team with a scheme interface manager.

You'll present the "Front Face" of Network Rail to our external partners, and as such, have a responsibility in balancing client expectations and safeguarding the railway from any ill effects. This won't always be an easy task but you will be presented with the opportunities to grow your own skills and influence our improvement and project plans for the benefit of thousands. You can be proud knowing you will make a difference every single day.

As a scheme interface manager, your key focus will be seamlessly integrating the funded projects into the operational railway whilst minimising any disruptions to our passengers. Here your problem-solving ability will be invaluable. Your days will never be the same and some of your responsibilities will be:

Building solutions on how to integrate the funded projects into the operational railway

Liaise with our customers to facilitate compliance with our various governance processes - your powers of persuasion and influencing will be needed as our customer's needs vary immensely

Interrogate customers to understand the project needs and what is needed to integrate with business as usual operation

Support your project teams to enable them to get the resources they need to make the project vision a reality

You will communicate project achievements to all within Network rail and your project partners

Working with your team you will devise strategies to minimise any disruption that will be felt by our freight and passenger customers

All of this sounds like a lot, and it is. Do not let this put you off; Network rail will give you the support to surmount any challenges you face. If you can answer "yes" to the below questions, you should apply now to start exploring how we can help you get to your career goals.

Do you have strong project management skills within a railway environment?

Are you working towards your PRINCE 2 or have a project management membership?

Do you take pride in your schemes and are willing to be accountable in your work?

Are you prepared to face challenges and take them in your stride?

Will you manage the project budget, minimising spend where you can?
