Employment Type: Permanent Employee We are currently seeking applications for a AWS Cloud Architect within the Social Security Directorate based in Glasgow or Dundee. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Scotland's Social Security Agency's will be split between Glasgow & Dundee. Together these offices will create at least 1,500 jobs split across the two cities.  Once fully operational the Agency will provide a local presence across Scotland, providing face-to-face support and advice, supported by centralised administrative functions.

The new Social Security IT systems will be the largest, most complex IT programme of change since devolution. The team have started with an almost  blank page and the IT spend over the course of the project  is estimated at circa £190 million. The new agency will process payments of  £3.3bn for 1.5 million citizens.

The Social Security Programme represents a significant delivery, technology and digital challenge for the Scottish Government.  Setting the new system up is a hugely complex task but a challenge that we relish and one that we are absolutely determined to get right.  The goal is a social security system that is there to support the people of Scotland, when they need it, for decades to come.

This role presents a unique opportunity to work as a Cloud Architect within the new programme.  The successful applicant, will get in early on this high profile public sector endeavor and will be key in shaping the ‘greenfield' solution for the new platform and in future extensions/enhancements to its systems.

The Cloud Architect will play a pivotal role in the shaping and extending new Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud hosting platform for the Social Security Agency in Scotland. DDaT Pay Supplement
This post attracts a £4,000 DDaT pay supplement after a 9 months ICT Competency qualifying period. Pay supplements are temporary payments designed to address recruitment and retention issues caused by market pressures and are subject to regular review.  Qualifications Required
For jobs in Band B & C you must hold a minimum of 3 Highers or equivalent.

AWS Solutions Architecture Professional or demonstrable  equivalent may also be acceptable, if you are in any doubt please contact to discuss.

Essential Criteria
1. An accomplished Cloud Architect with experience designing large, complex IT solutions. The candidate will liaise with key stakeholders to establish requirements, define scope, assess impact, produce relevant architecture and socialise through appropriate governance procedures. The candidate must be able to influence architectural decisions and strategies with the ability to communicate and engage with both technical and senior level management.
2. The candidate will have a deep understanding of the AWS platform services and be able to define highly available, resilient, scalable and fault tolerant end to end solution architecture including integration with on premise and third party suppliers.
3. The candidate will have extensive knowledge of the various automation tools used within a cloud infrastructure and be able to incorporate there use in the design and subsequent communicate with project resource.
4. Experience working under security-related frameworks and best practice, e.g. ISO 27001, or Stand of Good Practice (ISF).  Demonstrable design knowledge should include (but not limited to) Cloud enabled security capabilities in the following areas: Identity and Access, Privileged Access Management, CI/CD Pipeline Security, Security Monitoring, Audit and Response, DevOps Orchestration Security Controls.
