Rapidly changing threats demand a fast-evolving regulator.
Set the pace at ONR.
Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is a growing, rapidly-evolving public corporation. Essentially, we're responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. To remain a world-class regulator and stay ahead of fast-changing security risks, we're constantly progressing - and you'll be leading the way.
Our Nuclear Security Inspectors represent ONR, checking compliance, raising safety and security standards and reassuring the public. As part of our Cyber Security & Information Assurance team, you'll see that nuclear industry is aware of and prepared for potential online threats and risks. That means assessing cyber security plans, inspecting arrangements at sites, writing reports and investigating issues. It's a challenging and varied role where you'll get to travel nationwide and work with a wide range of people.
Life at ONR
This is a field that's advancing fast and we need to keep pace with progress. That's why you can expect to work with new, state of the art IT systems in a modern office environment. We're investing in the organisation to ensure we remain a world-class regulator. To help our team to perform at their best, we provide expert training, which continues throughout your career. With flexibility and work-life balance too, you can enjoy life in one of our three attractive locations.
We're looking for experience in Cyber Security risk analysis and management, including assessing protection for operational technology and managing incident response. This should be based on a degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Information Security, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a similar subject. With this background, you'll be capable of performing audits, assurance activities and compliance inspections. And with membership of a professional body such as IISP, MBCS, NCSC Certified Cyber Professional (CCP) Scheme) and relevant skills training (e.g. CISSP or CISM), you'll be up to date with best practice and industry trends. While experience of delivering and assuring security in the nuclear industry is helpful, you may have worked in another high-hazard industry or sector.
Along with sound technical knowledge, you'll need advanced people skills. It's vital that you can build partnerships, influence and work in collaboration with contacts to achieve the right results.
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £51,937 - £61,284 (plus £8,500 non-consolidated cyber market allowance and £4,052 London Weighting Allowance for London-based roles). Furthermore, you'll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). In addition, you'll receive a generous holiday entitlement and we also offer flexible working arrangements.
