The security landscape never stops changing. And neither do we.

Help us stay one step ahead.

 The challenge

Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is a growing, rapidly-evolving public corporation. Essentially, we're responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. As the security landscape transforms at an incredible speed, you'll stay one step ahead as part of a world-class regulator.

The role

Our Nuclear Security Inspectors represent ONR, ensuring compliance, raising safety and security standards and reassuring the public. As part of our Cyber Security & Information Assurance team, you'll see that nuclear industry is aware of and prepared for potential online threats and risks. A senior professional, you'll lead your team to assess security plans, inspect sites and investigate issues, while designing interventions, giving advice and coaching, and co-ordinating investigations. It's a pivotal role within the wider department and you'll be dealing with Government, law enforcement, international bodies and other regulators.

Life at ONR

This is a field that's advancing fast and we need to keep pace with progress. That's why you can expect to work with new, state of the art IT systems in a modern office environment. We're investing in the organisation to ensure we remain a world-class regulator. To help our team to perform at their best, we provide expert training, which continues throughout your career. With flexibility and work-life balance too, you can enjoy life in one of our three attractive locations.

The person

To join us, you'll need extensive experience in Cyber Security covering operational technology. This should be underpinned by a good theoretical understanding of cyber defence, detection, response and recovery as well as the people and procedural matters related to cyber risk management. With a degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Cyber Security, Information Security, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a similar subject too, you'll be capable of performing audits, assurance activities and compliance inspections. You'll reinforce your expertise with membership of a professional body such as IISP, MBCS, NCSC Certified Cyber Professional (CCP) Scheme) and relevant skills training (e.g. CISSP or CISM). Experience in the nuclear industry is preferable at this level.

With your exceptional knowledge, you'll help us reinforce our reputation as a regulation thought leader. But to excel in the role, you'll also need outstanding people skills. It's vital that you're collaborative, assertive and able to express yourself well. Able to give guidance and build relationships, you'll be a great team leader and an influential expert.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £74,012 - £79,754 (plus £8,500 non-consolidated cyber market allowance and £4,052 London Weighting Allowance for London-based roles). Furthermore, you'll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). In addition, you'll receive a generous holiday entitlement and we also offer flexible working arrangements.

About us

ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all of the UK's licensed nuclear sites. Our staff are drawn from a wider range of professional backgrounds in order to run a stand-alone business with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering,  nuclear physic, safeguards, protective security and cyber security. And together they're involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
