Principal Network Engineer

Would you like to work on the flagship platforms for the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Network Engineer at our site in Broad Oak.

As a Principal Network Engineer, your responsibilities will include the design and upgrade of the QEC class networks for both Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth. You will also get involved in the test integration and installation on the ship and be expected to support more junior members of the team, review their work and mentor them.

This role will provide you with a great opportunity to gain wide exposure across the business, opening up further progression opportunities.

 

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Network Engineer will involve:

Lead and support the design phase of Naval Networks, which encompasses network architecture and development/changes to requirements of interface documents that capture how using systems will interface with the network.

Lead and support the implementation phase of Naval Network based on the design baseline, which encompasses the configuration creation, supporting the development of auto generated interface scripting the design directly into switch configuration.

Lead and support the test/release phase of Naval Networks based on the implementation baseline, which encompasses fault resolutions under pressure for delivery of a release to be used on platform.

Lead and support all platform activities.

Support the maturity of functional, performance and safety testing that will be required to release deployable networks to other suppliers.

Apply good Configuration Management processes to daily work through Observation Reporting tools and keep a good track of documentation amendment records.

 

Your skills and qualifications:

Experienced in all aspects of networking, L1 to L3 skills

IT Infrastructure / networking technical background

Must have a sound understanding in Data centre type technologies, Windows Server, Active Directory/DNS and VmWare

Integration support background

LAN, WAN, MPLS, QoS, BGP, OSPF, RIP, IPSEC, GRE, L2TP, MSTP, HSRP, Virtual Switching.

Degree or HNC/HND qualified or equivalent, in a technology, engineering or science related discipline

CISCO accreditation to CCNP level or Juniper JNCIP is desirable

Preferably meet the requirements for registration as Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council
